‘We first saw an advert in a local property magazine for Azahar Dream Homes regarding buying property in Bulgaria. My first reaction when studying the advert was “Oh, a nice property on the beach in Bulgaria would be fantastic!”

We made an appointment to go and see David Blackwell at his offices in Colchester. His friendly nature put us at ease from the first time we met him. David explained all the details about buying property abroad, which can seem very daunting if you don’t know anything about it.

David showed us a few properties that were on offer; after weighing up the options we decided to look into buying property in Bansko in Bulgaria (a popular ski resort) and not at sunny beach, as it is an all year round resort.

David organised a viewing trip for my husband and I to Bansko to view an off-plan property in the region of the Perin Mountains. David’s professionalism is second to none; when we were in Bansko every meal, hotel booking, viewing trip was well organised, nothing was too much trouble and David bent over backwards when it came to us making a decision on the property.

He knew everything there was to know about the local traditions and culture and introduced us to some of the most fabulous food in the little restaurants. At no time were we rushed; we had a lot of time to admire the surrounding countryside.

‘We had tried to purchase our property through another Spanish estate agent and it was fraught with disaster: a nightmare that you hear so often about in Spain.

We were very aware of the problems and went with a good solicitor (so we thought); we were very careful and spent a long time looking at the estate agents before making a choice. We were told by the estate agent and solicitor that the land was building land when in fact it was agricultural land. Our fight to recover our costs continues.

We had decided to give up our dream of owning our own property in Spain, when we saw an advert for Azahar Dream Homes saying they had been established in the area for 20 years. We thought that to stay in one place they must be a reliable company, so we thought we would give it one more go.

As soon as we contacted David every thing just went so smoothly. We felt that we had known him for years after just one phone call, that we could trust him and work with him to make our dream come true! We were very impressed by all the staff associated with Azahar Dream Homes and his partners and builders in Spain, who are Albert-Villas based in Alcossebre.

We were very impressed because unlike the other estate agents we had met, he did not insist on immediately wanting deposits for the property. It was him telling us not to rush into anything, to take our time and make sure it was definitely what we wanted.

We have just taken receipt of our new apartment in Alcala de Chivert near Alcossebre and we are so very impressed by the high quality of the build. We are also moving into our property two months before the contracted date – something that is unheard of in Spain! The company helps with every aspect of your move to Spain, from making local contacts to arranging bank accounts and insurances, etc.

Azahar Dream Homes and David Blackwell turned our dream into a reality. Having seen his advert in a local newspaper we invited him to our home, where he made us realise that we could achieve what we had always wanted to do.

He arranged our trip to Spain where there were local staff to help us every step of the way – we even had our own handyman when the time came to move in!
